Enhance your health the natural way

Homeopathy was first developed by German physician, Samuel Hahnemann, more than 200 years ago.  Today, according to the World Health Organisation, Homoeopathy is the second most widely used medicine in the world. Homeopathy is concerned not only with treating ill health, but in maintaining wellbeing.  This is in contrast with conventional medicine which aims at treating the physical effects of illness without addressing the underlying cause. Homoeopathy, however, views all symptoms – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual – as an indication of an underlying state of ill health that affects the whole person, not just one or two body systems.

The word ‘homoeopathy’ is derived from the Greek ‘homio’ meaning ‘similar’ and ‘pathos’ meaning ‘suffering’, in other words ‘like treats like’.  This is the basic tenet of homoeopathic prescribing.  In practice this means that a substance capable of producing certain symptoms in a healthy person, can treat those same symptoms in a sick person when taken in microdoses.  The ability of homoeopathic remedies to bring about healing is a response of the body’s innate life force or ‘vital force’.  Homeopathic remedies are derived from natural plant, animal and mineral sources and can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions.

Conventional medicine, is based on the principle of ‘allopathy’ or ‘opposite suffering’, which means that conditions are treated by substances that are incompatible or antagonistic to the condition.  For example antidepressants for depression, antihistamines for blocking histamines during an allergic response, antibiotics for destroying bacteria during infection.  Much of the development of allopathic medicine began around World War II when there was a strong need for these types of therapies.  However, the routine use of these medicines is becoming progressively expensive and causing increasing side effects.

On the hand, Homoeopathic medicines offer many advantages.  They are natural, safe, gentle, easy to use and relatively inexpensive.  Homoeopathic remedies are produced without generating chemical waste, they are not tested on animals, and they are not patented by pharmaceutical companies.  Homoeopathy is a naturopathic form of medicine that seeks to assist nature in stimulating the body’s own healing capabilities rather than overriding them with drugs.  Homoeopathy recognises that every person is different and that the same diet, the same medications, the same general advice does not necessarily work for everyone.  By taking into account an individual’s physical symptoms, mental and emotional symptoms, and general sensitivities a Homoeopathic remedy can be prescribed that matches the whole symptom picture unique to that person.  Homoeopathic remedies can be a used for both acute and chronic conditions are gentle enough to be taken by newborn infants, pregnant women and people of all ages.
